Everyone loses some hair on a daily basis, especially as we get older. It is estimated that we shed on an average about 50-100 strands of hair on a daily basis. Each hair follicle goes through a growth phase followed by a resting phase where no growth occurs. After the resting phase, the hair strand falls out and a new one begins to grow in its place. For a healthy person, between 80 - 90% of hair follicles are in growth phase, while the rest of the follicles are resting or shedding. The same number of hair will grow to replace the hair that has been lost, therefore, you should have roughly the same amount of hair follicles on your scalp at all times. There is no way to completely prevent this hair loss, as it is a part of your body’s natural cycle. Shedding is necessary in order for new, healthy strands of hair to grow.
Experts say if you hold an inch of hair about an inch away from the roots & pull gently, if you're losing hair in patches or if you lose more than 7-8 strands of hair then it is considered excessive hair loss. Excessive hair loss could be due to many reasons like stress, early signs of alopecia, or lack of essential vitamins in your diet and you should seek medical advice.
Normal daily hair loss occurs with everyday activities such as brushing, washing and conditioning your hair. Also If you have much longer hair, it may appear that you are losing more than you really are.
Chemical processing like synthetic hair dyes, bleaching & straightening don’t actually affect natural hair growth, but they damage the structure of the hair to some extent. This in turn could weaken the hair shaft and can lead to breakage that looks like hair loss, but is not truly hair loss but which also appears to reduce the thickness of hair.
A regular treatment of conditioning scalp & strengthening hair using pure natural and organic ingredients found in nature, using natural shampoos and deep conditioning hair mask will go a long way in restoring the health of your hair.
