Henna has a natural red dye. Indigo has a natural blue dye. Senna has a natural yellow dye.
Henna – Indigo mix gives shades of brown to black.
Henna – Senna mix gives shades of red.
If your brown-black hair is grey, mixing dyes will give the following colours:
2/3 Henna & 1/3 Indigo |
Light Brown |
½ Henna & ½ Indigo |
Mid Brown |
1/3 Henna & 2/3 Indigo |
Darker Brown |
Henna first, wash out & then apply Indigo |
Black |
1 tbsp Amla Powder per 50gms of henna, will give a slight ash tone to the red in the henna.
If you have grey hair, mixing dyes will give the following colours:

Coppery red |
½ Henna & ½ Cassia |
Coppery gold |
2/3 Henna & 1/3 Indigo |
Light Brown |
½ Henna & ½ Indigo |
Medium Brown |
2/3 Indigo & 1/3 Henna |
Dark Brown |
